Inverness Sheriff Court was told how drunk Tiffin, 29 — who had recently visited Saudi Arabia and Turkey — sent messages to the member at the city’s mosque saying: “I decided to kill the unbelievables”, followed by a text stating “Unbelievers” and another saying “Allahu Akbar”.

The mosque-goer, aware of Tiffin’s military background and his trips to countries targeted by IS recruiters, went to the cops, Mr Urquhart added.

Tiffin, of Invergordon, Easter Ross, admitted behaving in a threatening manner on June 8, five days after in the English capital.

Sentence was deferred until next month and Tiffin, was bailed.
