TRANSGENDER rapist Isla Bryson will have access to make-up, wigs, women’s underwear and even fake breasts while serving her sentence in a male prison under Scottish Prison Service policy, it can be revealed.
Bryson, 31, is at the centre of a political storm after it was revealed the rapist, once a man called Adam Graham, swapped gender after being charged with two rapes.
Bryson was initially sent to Cornton Vale women's prison near Stirling before First Minister Nicola Sturgeon bowed to public and political pressure by ordering she be moved to HMP Edinburgh, a men's facility.
According to a Scottish Prison Service (SPS) Gender Identity and Gender Reassignment Policy, prisoners should be accommodated on the basis of their self-declared gender identity.
This is subject to an individualised assessment.
Bryson will be allowed a range of "gender affirming" items, it has been revealed.
This includes clothing, sanitary wear, hair removal cream, facial cosmetics, wigs, hair pieces and prosthetic breasts.
Access to these, the policy states, should not be viewed "as special treatment but as a form of accessibility treatment".
Nor should the list of items "be considered exhaustive".
The policy adds: "People in custody with the protected characteristic of gender reassignment may require access to property in use which may not be traditionally associated with their social gender role or readily available in a particular gender establishment.

"Suitable access to additional property in use which is necessary to support their gender reassignment process should be provided to all remand and sentenced people in custody with the protected characteristic of gender reassignment, regardless of which establishment they have been allocated to."
Feminist campaigner Dr Nicola Williams, of the group Fair Play For Women, said the SPS policy "exemplifies everything that is wrong with Scotland’s blinkered approach to trans rights".
A spokesperson for the SPS said: "Any individual accommodated within our establishments receives access to property they are entitled to, irrespective of their gender identity."
The SPS Gender Recognition policy is currently under review.
Women's campaigners hope it will bring an end to trans prisoners being able to demand a move into the female estate.
