Boris breached protocol within minutes by revealing the Queen told him: ‘I don’t know why anyone wants the job’
BORIS Johnson gaffed within just minutes of becoming Prime Minister after revealing the Queen told him: "I don't know why anyone would want the job".
The new Tory leader is understood to have loudly blabbed to Downing Street staff after his first private meeting with the Monarch.
Divulging private discussions with the head of state is a major breach of royal protocol - with Boris scalded by his new staff, reports.
Boris isn't the only PM to have made the same blunder - with David Cameron forced to apologise to the Queen in 2014 after saying she "purred down the line" when he told her Scotland had rejected independence.
Bragging Cameron also appeared to claim Her Majesty had "teared up" while chatting with billionaire US media mogul Michael Bloomberg at a trade event.
On the day of a historic handover of power:
- The new PM appointed a top table of leading Brexiteers
- He promised to fix social care, hire 20,000 cops and slash taxes
- BoJo also said he would upgrade 20 hospitals, cut GP waiting times and boost spending on schools
- Four pro-Remain ministers quit rather than serve under Boris

Boris' gaffe came minutes before he slammed "the doubters, the doomsters, the gloomsters" who believe Brexit is destined for failure on the steps of Downing Street.
The barnstorming speech was watched by 31-year-old girlfriend Carrie Symonds, who will be moving in to a spacious flat above No 11 with him.
BoJo blasted: "The doubters, the doomsters, the gloomsters - they are going to get it wrong again. The people who bet against Britain are going to lose their shirts because we are going to restore trust in our democracy.
"We will do a new deal, a better deal that will maximise the opportunities of Brexit while allowing us to develop a new and exciting partnership with the rest of Europe.
"I have every confidence that in 99 days' time we will have cracked it."
Boris continued his first day as PM in a midnight bloodbath that saw him axe half of Theresa May's Cabinet.
Today will see his new Cabinet meet at 8.30am to start the battle for Britain leaving the EU by Halloween.
Boris' career in politics has gone hand-in-hand with his famous gaffes - including when he got stuck on a zip line during the London 2012 Olympics while clutching two Union Jack flags.
And in 2015, he took out a 15-year-old schoolboy during a game of street rugby in Tokyo.
It came years after he tripped another schoolboy during a football match in London and kicked another rival in the crutch during a charity game in 2006.
