Spin doctor hijacks ex-Labour MP’s Twitter account to call him ‘selfish degenerate p***k’ in sensational resignation rant
THE spin doctor for a former Labour MP who was booted out of the party is thought to have labelled his boss a “selfish, degenerate p***k” in an epic Twitter rant.
Jared O’Mara, 37, managed to unseat Nick Clegg in June 2017 with a majority of 2,125 votes to become the MP for Sheffield Hallam.
Now it appears a former aide, Gareth Arnold, has unleashed a no-holds-barred rant about the controversial MP.
In a series of Twitter posts he appears to write: “Comms Team signing off.. forever: Jared, you are the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with.
“You do not care about your constituents. You do not care about anyone but yourself.
“I cannot and will not defend you and your vile, inexcusable contempt for the people who voted you in. You selfish, degenerate p***k.
“My fear is that now (as I quit) the rest of the staff will leave and once again you will close your office and stop helping anyone but still take your wages until you have the decency to call a byelection.
“Leaving constituents desperate for representation again.
“No matter if they are having their homes taken away, their liberaties [sic] disgraced or being deported because of your inaction.
“Sheffield Hallam deserves so much better than you. You have wasted opportunities which people dare not to even dream of."
The former aide tagged his own Twitter account as he signed off, writing: “Consider this my resignation. Thanks Gareth Arnold.”
'MORALLY BANKRUPT'
On his own Twitter account, Mr Arnold wrote: “I am pretty sure Jared is asleep because he hasn’t been in for a few weeks and hadn’t replied to my WhatsApp... oh crumbs.”
He added: “He has just messaged me and he pays that little attention to anything that he’s not even seen the tweet all of his constituents have. Unbelievable.”
Mr O'Mara resigned in October 2017 when offensive comments about women and gay men he had made in 2009 came to light.
Comments included inviting the members of Girls Aloud to an orgy and joking about Jamie Cullum being “sodomised to death”.
While Jared O’Mara was suspended from the party the same month he was reinstated in July the following year but resigned nine days later.
Mr Arnold set up the parody Twitter account Britain Furst in 2014 and started trolling the far right Britain First.
In April this year Mr O’Mara announced he was having a “temporary pause” in handling casework until he hired new staff and moved into a new office.
He was unable to hold constituency surgeries or respond to phone calls or correspondence for around four weeks, according to the .
Last week, Mr O’Mara said he intends to stand for election despite criticism of his voting record.
He said: "I am going nowhere, and I'm here for you whether you want me here for you or not.
What were O'Mara's online comments?
In October the reported a number of offensive and derogatory comments which Mr O'Mara had posted on the Drowned in Sound music website.
The series of abusive comments included rants against overweight people as well as declaring it would be amusing if jazz musician Jamie Cullum was raped and killed.
Mr O'Mara wrote: "It would be no great loss to the music world if he was sodomised with his own piano and subsequently died of a sore a***. In fact, it would be quite funny."
And he also made obscene remarks about pop group Girls Aloud, posting: "Girls Aloud - I advise you to sack Sarah and the remaining four members come and have an orgy with me."
He also described Sheffield United supporters as "f***ing pigs" and the residents of Leeds as "a bunch of rugby lovin' c****".
O'Mara, who was 26 at the time, also spoke in disparaging terms about Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus - saying she only won the TV talent show because she "was fat".
He added: "Being a disabled person, I would hate to win something because people thought I was 'brave' or felt sorry for me, rather than for my superior ability/talent."
Following a day of damaging reports, Mr O'Mara announced on the night of October 23, 2017, he was resigning from the Women and Equalities select committee.
The party suspended Mr O'Mara during the investigation, following pressure from senior MPs.
