JEREMY Corbyn was first thrown into the election limelight 30 years ago – by the TORIES.

Margaret Thatcher used the then rookie MP in a massive poster blitz to demonstrate how Labour had lurched to the left.

He was the centrepiece of the 1987 ad campaign dreamed up by Saatchi and Saatchi.

It depicted six hard-left members of the Labour party – including Corbyn allies Diane Abbott and Ken Livingstone - with the caption: “So this is the new moderate militant-free Labour party”.

A mugshot of youthful Mr Corbyn was printed above a quote of him saying: “Defeat of the Tory Government will be brought about by a series of disputes, of which parliament is only part.”

Tory MP Stewart Jackson said: “These three have spent a lifetime trying to clobber people with tax hikes, spending binges and nuclear disarmament.

“Now they have a chance to put this into practice, propped up by the Lib Dems and the SNP in a coalition of chaos.

“It’s scary. The only way we can stop it is with a vote for Theresa May’s team.”
