Second Labour MP is suspended over offensive WhatsApps as scandal engulfs party

A SECOND Labour MP has been suspended from the party for being a member of a WhatsApp group with highly-offensive messages.

Oliver Ryan lost the whip tonight over his failure to condemn his colleague Andrew Gwynne's foul-mouthed texts.

Andrew Gwynne was sacked as a health minister

Gwynne was sacked as a health minister over the weekend after suggesting a pensioner should die after complaining about bins.

He also said that because somebody "sounds Jewish" they might be a member of the Israeli spy agency Mossad.

It since emerged that Ryan - the new MP for Burnley - was also a member of the group Trigger Me Timbers but did not speak out.

The 29-year-old has apologised but was today booted out the party following a meeting with Chief Whip Sir Alan Campbell.

A Labour Party spokesman said: "As part of our WhatsApp group investigation, Oliver Ryan has been administratively suspended as a member of the Labour Party.

"As soon as this group was brought to our attention, a thorough investigation was immediately launched and this process is ongoing in line with the Labour Party's rules and procedures.

"Swift action will always be taken where individuals are found to have breached the high standards expected of them as Labour Party members."

Ryan's suspension from Labour means that he automatically loses the party whip in Parliament.

Gwynne also posted sexist and racist remarks - including anti-Semitic posts and a ‘joke’ about a constituent getting “mown down” by a truck.

the MP for Gorton and Denton in Greater Manchester, made the shocking posts in a Whatsapp chat.

In one post, he said he hopes a 72-year-old woman will soon be dead after she dared to ask about her bins.

The woman had written to her local councillor saying she had not voted Labour, but added: “As you have been re-elected I thought it would be an appropriate time to contact you with regard to the bin collections.”

The councillor shared the letter in the WhatsApp group which Labour figures were on.

Gwynne wrote a suggested response: “Dear resident, F*** your bins. I'm re-elected and without your vote. Screw you. PS: Hopefully you'll have croaked it by the all-outs.”

All-outs are local elections in which every council seat is up for grabs.

The messages were exchanged in a group called Trigger Me Timbers.

Gwynne later said: "I deeply regret my badly misjudged commments and apologise for any offense I’ve caused."
