“Our thanks also to President Trump for allowing us to use Mar-A-Lago for this historic meeting. The special relationship is alive and well.”

There has been growing speculation that Musk could make a donation via one of his UK companies to Reform UK to help with their campaigning.

But the party though has been keen to dampen expectations that it could hit almost £80 million.

At the weekend, Candy, 51, told The Sunday Times: “I don’t want to go too much into the personal side of it. But he, I think, would like to help Nigel and Reform and myself.”

Tycoon Candy added that Musk is “legally allowed to donate through his companies that are registered in the UK … whether that’s Tesla or whether that’s X”.

Reform have also been keen to speak to Musk about Trump’s victory in the US election and winning in seven swng states that ultimately decided his win.

Candy believes he can raise up to £40 million by the next election and he will personally give £1 million.
