Michael Gove under investigation by standards watchdog over financial interests
MICHAEL Gove was today put under investigation by Parliament's sleaze watchdog.
The probe relates to the Housing Secretary's register of financial interests - but details are kept confidential until the investigation concludes.
It comes after the Guardian reported last week that Mr Gove failed to formally register VIP hospitality he received at a football match with Tory donor David Meller.
Mr Meller's firm was previously recommended by the Housing Secretary for a PPE contract during the pandemic.
Mr Gove and Mr Meller were entertained at a Queens Park Rangers match in 2021.
Meller Designs was granted six PPE contracts worth £164m when Covid struck the UK.

A spokesperson for Mr Gove declined to comment on the standards watchdog investigation.
Commenting on the football hospitality, they said: “Mr Gove is grateful to the Guardian for bringing this matter to his attention.
"He has written to the relevant parliamentary authorities to inform them of a potential omission from the register of members’ financial interests regarding two complimentary tickets he received from Queens Park Rangers Football Club to a match in August 2021.
“Mr Gove routinely declares his attendance at such events in his role as an MP and government minister, as evidenced by other entries in his register of interests and ministerial transparency returns.
