Lisa Nandy joins Labour leadership race to replace Jeremy Corbyn as she vows to ‘bring the party home’
LISA Nandy has become the latest hopeful to throw her hat in the ring for the Labour leadership.
The Wigan MP officially confirmed her bid to replace Jeremy Corbyn today and vowed to “bring Labour home” to its Northern heartlands.

She wrote on her website: “This shattering election defeat was a long time coming.
“I have listened and I understand that we have one chance to win back the trust of people in Wigan, Workington and Wrexham.
“To earn that trust means we need a leader who is proud to be from those communities, has skin in the game, and is prepared to go out, listen and bring Labour home to you.”

Ms Nandy is the fourth MP to enter the leader race with ardent Remainer Jess Phillips, Corbynista Clive Lewis and shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry also running.
But others are expected to enter the fight this weekend, with Labour’s Brexit boss Sir Keir Starmer and hard-left shadow business secretary Rebecca Long Bailey set to declare.
BLISTERING ATTACK
Ms Phillips, the MP for Birmingham Yardley, announced her bid with a blistering attack on Mr Corbyn’s policies.
The outspoken backbencher savaged the Labour leader’s “woeful response” to the anti-Semitism crisis and refusal to pick a side on Brexit.
We have got to be brave and bold and bring people with us, not try and look all ways.
Jess Phillips
She said the party must elect a “different kind of leader” to avoid more crushing defeats at the ballot box.
She said: “We have got to be brave and bold and bring people with us, not try and look all ways.

“Trying to please everyone usually means we have pleased no one. Now is not the time to be meek.”
The bookies have Ms Nandy at 8-1 to be the next Labour leader while Keir Starmer remains the odds-on favourite at 4-5, while Rebecca-Long Bailey is 4-1.
