Boris Johnson warns rebel MPs he will trigger a snap General Election on October 14 if they block No Deal Brexit
BORIS Johnson tonight warned rebel MPs he will force a snap General Election on October 14 if they try to delay Brexit again Tuesday night.
The new PM revealed he is prepared to stake his entire Premiership on ensuring Brexit is delivered on October 31.
Around 20 rebel Tory MPs will ally with Labour in a knifedge Commons showdown tomorrow evening to attempt to seize control of Parliament’s timetable, and then pass a new law at lightning speed by the end of the week to block No Deal.
If their plan succeeds, Mr Johnson will be legally bound to ask the EU to extend Article 50 talks by yet another three months until at least January 31, and possibly much longer.
Hitting back at them tonight, angry Boris mounted the ultimate high stakes gamble to try to stare the Remainer rebels down.
Issuing his warning in a live TV address on the steps of No10 at 6pm tonight, the PM insisted: “I want everybody to know there are no circumstances in which I will ask Brussels to delay.
BREXIT SHOWDOWN
“I don’t want an election. You don’t want an election”.
And he pleaded: “Let our negotiators get on with their work without that sword of Damocles over their necks”.
A senior Government official said if the rebels win tomorrow night, Boris will table an immediate vote to dissolve Parliament and go to the polls on Monday October 14 – the first general election not to be held on a Thursday since 1931.
The official added: “If MPs vote to take control of the order paper, there will be a very simple choice: there will be a vote on a general election on Wednesday”.
