Boris Johnson to hold talks with Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland in effort to keep Union together over Brexit

BORIS Johnson will today hold talks with Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland in a bid to keep the Union together over Brexit.

The PM will also have a one-to-one with Scots Tory leader Ruth Davidson, who was infuriated by his Cabinet reshuffle.

It comes as No10 announces plans to spend £300million across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to “ensure no corner of the United Kingdom is left behind.”

The meeting with Ms Sturgeon is expected to take place at her official residence of Bute House in Edinburgh.

Sources claim First Minister Ms Sturgeon set out her “strong opposition” to a cliff-edge EU exit in a phone call with Mr Johnson.

After Boris Johnson was appointed Prime Minister she insisted a second Scottish independence referendum was “more essential than ever”.

The PM still polls disastrously in Scotland – a problem that dates back to 2004 when, as editor of the Spectator, he published a poem calling for the “extermination” of the “verminous Scottish race”.

A YouGov poll claimed three quarters of Scottish people believe he is incompetent.

Ms Davidson was also reportedly 'livid' after Boris sacked David Mundell as Scottish Secretary last week.
