Fury at ‘grossly irresponsible’ plot to block No Deal Brexit by holding back money from vital public services

HARDCORE Remainers were today accused of risking vital public services with an "arrogant" attempt to stop No Deal Brexit.

Pro-EU MPs will next week threaten to block funding for services in a bid to stop Boris Johnson taking us out of the EU without a deal.

Theresa May blasted the "grossly irresponsible" Remainer plot.

And Tory MPs hit out at Europhile ringleader Dominic Grieve, who is masterminding the plan with Labour's Margaret Beckett.

The two ex-ministers have drawn up an amendment which would deny Government departments funding in the event of a No Deal.

It would see the departments of work and pensions, education, housing and foreign aid cut off from the cash they need to operate.

MPs will vote on the move on Tuesday and it could succeed if Labour get behind it.

'PLAYING POLITICS'

Mrs May's spokesman blasted: "Any attempt to deny vital funding to Whitehall departments would be grossly irresponsible.

"This is Government spending for this financial year and funds crucial areas like schools, housing and welfare."

Tory MP Bob Seely attacked Mr Grieve as an "obsessive, arrogant, disrespectful zealot".

Colleague Simon Clarke added: "For Dominic Grieve to start to play politics with schools, hospitals and welfare payments is appalling."

Mr Grieve, the former Attorney General, told The Sun last night: "The suggestion that we could or should be taken out of the EU without the consent of the House of Commons is fundamentally wrong, and frankly unconstitutional.

"The fact that it is being suggested as a viable option is unacceptable. The Commons should put down such markers as it can that such a course of action is acceptable."

Leadership frontrunner Boris Johnson has vowed to deliver Brexit on October 31, with or without a deal.

He has dismissed fears that the Commons could block No Deal, insisting he'll unite MPs behind his plan.
