SIR Elton John unleashed an anti-Brexit tirade at a gig — telling the audience he was “European” and not an “English idiot”.
The Rocketman star, 72, said he was “ashamed” of the UK and fed up with British MPs during the 60-second rant as he sat as his piano.
He appeared to suggest the 17.4million who voted Leave in the 2016 referendum were “stupid’’.
Moments before starting his 1995 hit Believe, he said: “I am sick to death of politicians, especially British politicians.
“I am sick to death of Brexit. I am a European. I am not a stupid, colonial, imperialist English idiot.”
To cheering, he added: “I’m ashamed of my country for what it has done. It’s torn people apart.”
Sir Elton made the comments at Verona on Wednesday during the Italian leg of his farewell tour.
He axed the gig on medical advice due to “inflamed vocal cords”.
Last year, Sir Elton said of Brexit on Channel 4 News: “I don’t think people in Britain were told the truth... I don’t think they knew exactly what they were voting for.”
Meanwhile, ex-Police frontman Sting, 67, said he voted Lib Dem at the EU elections as “a protest vote against Brexit”.
