Second Brexit referendum would wipe out Labour and make No Deal inevitable, Corbyn is warned

Labour MPs have urged the leader not to start supporting a second referendum

JEREMY Corbyn will destroy Labour and push the UK into a No Deal Brexit if he backs a second referendum, Labour MPs warned today.

The leftie leader is under intense pressure to come out in favour of a fresh vote which could keep us in the EU.

But backbenchers blasted the possibility of a second referendum saying it would drive away Labour's traditional voters.

Lisa Nandy said a second referendum would result in a No Deal outcome as furious Brexit supporters vote Leave for a second time.

And she insisted that ignoring areas like her Wigan seat will ensure Labour can't make it back into power.

Ms Nandy, who voted Remain but now wants to respect the 2016 vote, told the BBC: "To most people the idea of a second referendum just seems quite absurd.

"People were asked what they think, you can see from the results that we had here, that very few people have changed their minds and if there is a shift in this area of the country I think it's towards No Deal Brexit.

"I think we've got to wake up to the seriousness not just of what we're about to do to the Labour party, but what we're about to do the country because I strongly suspect that if there is a second referendum people here would come out and vote in fairly large numbers and probably vote for No Deal.

"There is a huge frustration amongst Labour voters who voted Leave in towns like mine to see leading figures from the Labour party out calling for a second referendum before there's been any serious attempt to implement the result of the first."

Gloria De Piero, the MP for Ashfield, added that blocking Brexit would "wreck the Labour party".

She said: "This is not just about Brexit. It’s about the future of the Labour party as we know it."

Today Mr Corbyn's close ally Diane Abbott said Labour would "foreground" their demand for a second referendum after the EU election disaster.

Labour came third behind both the Brexit Party and Lib Dems in the European Parliament polls.

Leave and Remain voters deserted the party because of its flip-flopping Brexit stance.
