Change UK leader Heidi Allen offers to quit after row over whether party should back Lib Dems in Euro elections
HEIDI Allen offered to quit as Change UK leader after a blazing row over whether the party should back the Lib Dems in today’s Euro elections.
She argued the party should support tactical voting outside the South East to maximise the chances of anti-Brexit candidates being elected.
But she was furiously slapped down by her party colleagues – including fellow Tory defector Anna Soubry.
She told Channel 4 News last night: “I am very, very troubled by this. This is a massive decision for a party to take.
“Had it been left to me, I would have absolutely advised tactical voting, but I have a responsibility.
“I respect the views of my fellow group members and the majority was that they didn’t want to go that way, but it is something that still troubles me.
“I have no doubt that the British public will look at the tactical voting websites out there and make their own decisions.”
The astonishing admission is the latest in a long list of humiliations and blunders for the newly-formed party.

Earlier this week, Ms Allen admitted she might not still be a Change UK MP when the next general election is held in 2022.
Two of the party’s top MEP candidates defected to back the Lib Dems after Change UK bombed with voters.
Since launching in just three months ago, they have been hit by a racism row, had to change their name after a legal threat, and been dogged by infighting.
