DOOMED FOR DEFEAT

Cabinet Ministers set to urge Theresa May to scrap her final Brexit Vote

A fresh row erupted over a No Deal, with ministers saying it would be better to allow a new leader to take over

CABINET MINISTERS are preparing to urge Theresa May to scrap her final Brexit vote – saying it’s doomed to a thumping defeat.

As a fresh row erupted over No Deal yesterday, one Minister said it would be better to allow a new leader to take over efforts to get a deal through Parliament.

They said: “I’ll listen to what Theresa has to say in Cabinet on Tuesday but unless there’s a really big change we haven’t got a chance.

“We can’t just go on using up all the lifelines.”

Another Cabinet source said they couldn’t see the point of holding a vote on the Withdrawal Bill when Labour was against it, and several Tories who backed it in March were now opposed.

“It’s only going to stoke up more anger,” they said.

NO DEAL, NO DICE

Writing in The Sunday Times, Theresa May insisted she would have a “bold” and “new” offer for MPs when the Withdrawal Bill is voted on in the first week of June.

The Sun on Saturday revealed No.10 is working on concessions to the DUP and Tory Eurosceptics around the use of technology on the Irish border.

But Ex-Cabinet Minister David Davis yesterday said he would vote against the deal when it comes back in June.

Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay refused to elaborate on what the new offer could be when pressed yesterday.

And he sparked a fresh row yesterday by saying the country had to once more step up preparations for a No Deal exit in November.

Speaking to Sky, he said: “If Parliament won’t back a deal then it needs to confront that reality. And I do think we then in that instance need to bring forward our

preparations to mitigate no deal.”

Within an hour Aid Secretary Rory Stewart insisted No Deal “wasn’t a destination” and that if he was leader he would take it “off the table”.

A ‘One Nation’ grouping of senior Tories will later today urge any future Tory leader to rule out No Deal when they declare their ‘values’ in Westminster later.

Arch Brexiteers claimed the group – led by Amber Rudd and Nicky Morgan – appeared to be out to stop Boris Johnson taking over.

Ms Morgan yesterday said any future leader had to unite both Remainers and Leavers.

She said: “The next prime minister must redefine Brexit as a One Nation project. If they do not, the door will be wide open for Britain’s first-ever Marxist government and a likely decade of decline.”
