Boris Johnson rules out election pact with Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party over fear it would destroy Tories

One Tory warned 'no seat is safe' if a deal isn't done

Leadership favourite BoJo has been warned that if he does not do a deal he will face heavy defeat at the next general election.

One Tory warned “no seat is safe” and that unless the next PM comes to an agreement, Mr Farage will “kill” the party and let Labour in.

Senior Tory Crispin Blunt, writing in today’s The Sun on Sunday, adds: “If the Conservatives don’t ally with his party we’ll be so badly damaged that government may fall into the hands of Corbyn’s Labour and the EU.”

But Mr Johnson has assured pals he can see off Mr Farage and Jeremy Corbyn. A close ally said: “He’s categorically ruled out doing any deal with Nigel Farage.

“Boris is the only leadership candidate who can see off both him and hard-left Mr Corbyn.”

Ex-Foreign Secretary Mr Johnson is favourite to take over when Theresa May steps down. Some 39 per cent of party members want him as PM, three times more than his nearest rival, ex-Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab.

The Brexit Party, meanwhile, is scooping £100,000 a day in donations as it gears up for a big win in Thursday’s European elections.

Mr Farage said he was in talks with “one or two” Tory MPs who are considering defecting. He also scotched talk of a pact with BoJo.

Mr Farage said: “Lots of Tories want to do deals with us, to which my answer is, ‘Why would I trust you?’ Whatever happens this week, we’re not packing up our tents.

“However I cut it, the need for the Brexit Party to get Brexit properly done is not going away.”

Meanwhile, a poll last night put the Brexit Party nine points ahead of Labour on 31 per cent. The Tories were on nine, ComRes said.
