Boris Johnson’s sister Rachel will fight Euro elections for anti-Brexit Change UK
The pro-EU journalist is the star candidate for Change UK, formerly called The Independent Group
BORIS Johnson's SISTER was today unveiled as the star candidate of pro-Remain party Change UK.
Journalist Rachel Johnson announced she will stand for the European Parliament next month.
She could go head-to-head with Jacob Rees-Mogg's sister Annunziata, who has joined Nigel Farage's Brexit Party.
Ms Johnson, who was on Celebrity Big Brother last year, will be the no1 candidate for Change UK - the new name for The Independent Group - in the South-West constituency.
She is a passionate anti-Brexit campaigner despite her brother Boris leading the Leave campaign in 2016.
Another brother, Jo, is also a Tory MP while her father Stanley is standing to be a Conservative MEP.
"A vote to leave the EU is so important, so life-changing for the next two generations that I am impelled to stand up and be counted for what I believe in, which is that we are far better in Europe."
She added: "I'm sure that Boris understands why this is not a vote against Boris. This is a vote for change. We need to move the dial. People need to have a say."
Other Change UK candidates include former Newsnight presenter Gavin Esler, and former MPs including Tory ex-Health Secretary Stephen Dorrell.
Jacek Rostowski, the former finance minister of Poland and ex-deputy to Donald Tusk, is also standing for the party.
At the party's campaign launch in Bristol, Mr Esler said: "Our political system is a joke. It is a worldwide joke. They are laughing at us - not with us, at us."
And leader Heidi Allen added: "This is no rebel alliance - this is the home of the Remain alliance."
The Brexit Party also unveiled a fresh slate of European Parliament candidates today.
They include Marine veteran James Glancy, former nurse Christina Jordan and smoked salmon entrepreneur Lance Forman.
Britain will be forced to take part in the EU elections on May 23 unless the House of Commons has signed off on a Brexit deal before then.
