Labour ‘would back revoking Article 50 by the end of this week if the only alternative is a No-Deal Brexit’
Shadow Business Secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey said her party would 'consider very, very strongly' voting to scrap Brexit at the end of this week
LABOUR would back revoking Article 50 if it was the only way to prevent a no deal Brexit by the end of this week, a key frontbencher suggested yesterday.
Shadow Business Secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey said that her party would “consider very, very strongly” backing the nuclear option of reversing the 2016 decision.
Meanwhile a third of Labour MPs yesterday wrote to Jeremy Corbyn demanding a second referendum as the price for any compromise deal with the Government.
The 80 MPs told him not to strike a deal with Mrs May unless she agrees to putting the deal to a ‘confirmatory’ public vote.
They said: “Labour is offering a vision of hope which has inspired millions of people. Tory Brexit threatens this, and so does any perceived participation in delivering it.
“Any compromise deal which is now agreed by Parliament will have no legitimacy if it is not confirmed by the public.”
The message was signed by high-profile figures including Stella Creasy, Margaret Hodge, Rachel Reeves and Jess Phillips.
