Kent has banned holiday bookings in the weeks after Brexit, while others have imposed restrictions on time off.

Labour MP Ian Murray said: “We’ve already heard this week that police forces across the entire UK are being stretched past breaking point.

"That’s why these servicemen and women are being forced to cancel their leave, why there’s a desperate search for new officers, and why the Home Secretary refused to say the UK would be as safe after March.

"Enough is enough.

"We shouldn’t make life more difficult than it already is for these brave police officers.”
