EU puppet-master Martin Selmayr insists No Deal Brexit ‘isn’t the end of the world’ as he pushes leaders to take a hard line on UK

Angela Merkel has threatened to make Britain 'look into the abyss' over Brexit

A NOTORIOUS Eurocrat has declared that No Deal Brexit is "not the end of the world" as Brussels braces for Britain to crash out.

Martin Selmayr, said by some to be the power behind the EU throne, insisted Europe shouldn't be worried by No Deal.

His comments came as he urged European leaders to take a tough line on Britain, according to Politico.

Mr Selmayr, right-hand man to European Commission boss Jean-Claude Juncker, told diplomats they shouldn't strike "mini deals" with the UK.

It came as the EU fights to keep a united line against Theresa May's request to rewrite the existing Brexit deal.

The PM is lobbying Brussels to ditch the Irish backstop after MPs agreed to back the withdrawal agreement as long as the backstop is cut out.

Angela Merkel has told allies she will "go to the edge of the precipice" with Mrs May rather than folding in the near future.

The German leader added that Britain should "look into the abyss before a deal is done at five to midnight".

And Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneissl claimed No Deal is now the most likely outcome.

She told the BBC: "It's very difficult to imagine that there can be a tremendous breakthrough - a magic solution - in the next few days."

Senior Tory Oliver Letwin, who has backed the PM's deal, said the chances of Britain crashing out are "enormously high".

Military told to make No Deal 'highest priority'

MILITARY bosses are treating No Deal Brexit as their "highest priority", a leaked letter has revealed.

The MoD's top civil servant told top brass they should devote their efforts to preparing Britain to leave the EU without a deal.

It comes as the military prepares to hold a series of "war games" designed to simulate the worst-case scenarios which some fear could result from No Deal.

According to Sky News, MoD permanent secretary Stephen Lovegrove wrote: "As a department, we have already made significant progress with our no-deal preparations.

"This includes both our internal planning to mitigate the impacts on defence itself as well as the wider support we have provided to the cross-government effort.

"However, moving into the New Year we will not only have to continue this hard work but treat it as our highest priority."

He warned that other military work could be scrapped to free up resources.

He added: "I think the great likelihood is that is where we will end up, as things currently stand.

"I think there’s almost no chance at all of her coming back with anything she can sell to the Conservative Party’s ERG group."

And a new poll found 36 per cent of voters saying No Deal is the most likely Brexit outcome - more than any other scenario.
