DAVID GAUKE blasted Tory Eurosceptics over Brexit yesterday and said they’d never be happy until France gives back Calais.

Sources told The Sun: “David said that even if the PM got something on the backstop, some Eurosceptics would ask for more.

“He added that if she got something on the money they’d ask why France isn’t giving us back Calais.”

Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom snapped back that ‘Remain’ Ministers should stop threatening to quit over No Deal.

Calais was annexed by King Edward III in the 14th century and was the “jewel in the English crown” before France seized it back in 1558.

Insiders said the Cabinet backed Tory backbencher ‘kingpin’ Sir Graham Brady’s call for the PM to revisit the Irish backstop.

But there was a only a guarded welcome to the compromise tabled by Kit Malthouse. Work and Pension Secretary Amber Rudd said the Cabinet only expressed a “cautious interest” to the so-called ‘Plan C’.
