Five Cabinet ministers head off to sell Brexit Britain and meet the business elite in Davos

A GANG of five Cabinet Ministers will head off to meet the business elite in Davos this week to help sell Brexit Britain.

Philip Hammond will take senior colleagues to the plush ski resort for high-level talks with trade and finance figures.

The Chancellor will be in Switzerland putting on a united front with cross-section of senior government figures.

He will be joined by International Trade Secretary Liam Fox and Business Secretary Greg Clark. International Aid Secretary Penny Mordaunt and Health Secretary Matt Hancock will also be joining him.

Meetings have been set up with for the Chancellor his finance counterparts in France and Germany. An invitation has also been extended to meet billionaire Bill Gates.

Liam Fox will chair a round table event with CEOs from major firms on Global Britain and also attend a dinner with Barclays.

The group have lined up dozens of meeting at the World Economic Forum with Mr Hammond leading the UK delegation.

It follows Theresa May pulling out to concentrate on Brexit matters at home and cross-party talks. The theme of the week at Davos is 4th Industrial Revolution.

MINISTERS OFF TO SELL BREXIT

Secretary of State for International Trade Dr Liam Fox MP said: “I’ll be heading to Davos this week to hold crucial talks with my global counterparts and promote UK plc on the world stage.

There is no better place or time than Davos to firmly show the world that Britain is open for business.

“The UK continues to be one of the leading destinations for foreign direct investment and next week I’ll announce the great progress we’ve made in the first month of 2019 to secure investment into all corners of the country.”

A source added: “This year’s Davos is about highlighting the best of the British economy and encouraging long term investment.

“To have maximum impact, the Chancellor is bringing together colleagues from across Cabinet who represent a broad range of views and skills.

“The UK will be united as we seek to influence the world’s most powerful leaders and maintain our place at the top as one of the largest economies.”
