Theresa May brands John Bercow’s behaviour ‘appalling’ and a ‘constitutional outrage’ after siding with pro-EU MPs
The PM also accused the Commons Speaker of having 'torn up the rule book' during a withering outburst to allies
THERESA May has accused John Bercow of “making it up as he’s going along” as a row over his alleged Brexit bias deepened.
Tory MPs fought another Commons confrontation with the Speaker after he sided with pro-EU MPs last week to help Parliament seize control of Brexit.
The PM revealed the depth of her private rage with him by delivering a withering outburst about him to allies.
The Sun has learned Mrs May dubbed Mr Bercow’s behaviour as “appalling” and “a constitutional outrage” during it.
She also accused him of having “torn up the rule book” with his ruling to allow a vote, overruling his senior officials’ advice, adding: “He is making it up as he’s going along”.
During the new clash with MPs ahead of the landmark meaningful vote, the Speaker furiously accused the Government of trying to bully him.
In an extraordinary outburst in the Commons chamber, he also attacked ministers for spreading fake news about him and dismissed claims that is secretly helping Remainers thwart Brexit as “staggeringly absurd”.
Instead, Mr Bercow he insisted he was “standing up for the rights of the House of Commons” and would not be “pushed around by agents of the executive”.

Mr Bercow also fumed: “They can be as rude as they like, they can be intimidating as they like, they can spread as much misinformation as they like - it won’t make a slightest bit of difference to my continuing and absolute determination to serve the House of Commons”.
He also boasted about his successive re-election as Speaker, he added: “Unlike some people in important positions, I have been elected, re-elected, re-elected and re-elected as Speaker to do the right thing by the House of Commons.
“That’s what I have done, that’s what i am doing and that’s what i will go on doing.”
