FOSTER'S FURY

DUP threatens to bring down Government over ‘humiliating’ Brexit deal

The Ulster Unionists who prop up the Tories say they could not support May's deal that 'broke up the UK and damaged its constitution'

ARLENE Foster flew to London to warn Theresa May the DUP would bring down her Government unless she changed course on Brexit.

The furious Ulster hardliner hinted the confidence and supply agreement propping up the Tories was not dependent on Mrs May being leader.

The DUP leader said there would be "consequences" for Mrs May if she put forward a deal which threatened to break up the United Kingdom.

"If she decides to go against that, if she decides to go against herself - because on many, many occasions she stood up in this very place and said she will not break up the United Kingdom, there will be no difference between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK - if she decides to go against all that, then there will be consequences," said Mrs Foster.

"Of course there will be consequences. We could not as Unionists support a deal that broke up the United Kingdom."

Meanwhile the DUP Brexit spokesman Sammy Wilson risked controversy by claiming Brussels was trying to give Britian a “punishment beating” because “they dared to vote to leave the EU.

"And unfortunately the Prime Minister has allowed that punishment beating to be administered.

"That punishment beating in my belief will damage the UK and damage the UK constitution."

He added: "We are clear - we will not be voting for this humiliation."
