Two weeks to save Brexit deal or talks will collapse, Boris Johnson warned
BORIS Johnson has just two weeks to save a Brexit deal or talks will collapse, he's been warned.
Both sides have refused to budge during tough talks in London and Brussels, and are set to face off against each other again in mid-September.
Time is fast running out to get a deal ready to be signed before the end of the year.
The PM has repeatedly said there's no chance of him extending the transition period any further.
Both sides are set for more meetings from September 7.
But The Times reports that Michel Barnier and the UK's David Frost will meet next week for emergency discussions about how to break the deadlock.
Mr Barnier has said a deal must be reached by the end of October at the latest, but he has said it's "unlikely" to happen.
He's demanded Britain set out its position on a range of issues before they can move on to other ones - prompting furious push back from Britain.
Mr Barnier has accused the UK of "wasting time" but he's rejected the UK's blueprint for a deal just last week and claimed it had nothing of substance.
It comes as The Sun revealed Boris is being urged to personally step in to try and break the deadlock.
And Germany's Angela Merkel is understood to be frustrated with the lack of progress between both sides.
There are key sticking points on whether we will obey any of the EU's rules after we leave, and what will happen to our fishing quotas.
Sources have also suggested that migration could play a part in sealing a deal, suggesting that unless Britain rolls over, it won't be able to force the French to stop the Channel crossings anytime soon.
One senior source told The Times: "It is hard to see how we get out of this hole.
"Pessimism is now dominant. Unless Frost unblocks this it is hard to see how a deal can be saved. We really are on the brink this time."
If Britain leaves without a deal at the end of the year, it will be on World Trade Organisation terms with lesser access to the EU's single market.
There could be disruption on both sides of the Channel and tariffs slapped on goods, a leaked document given to The Sun has shown.
Government insiders fear a second wave and No Deal Brexit would cause chaos for the country this winter.
