Labour push for a TWO YEAR Brexit delay if Boris Johnson doesn’t get EU trade deal by June
LABOUR has launched a fresh push for a TWO YEAR Brexit delay if Boris Johnson doesn't seal a trade deal with the EU by June.
Jeremy Corbyn has tabled a change to the PM's Brexit Bill - which will be brought back to the Commons for more scrutiny next Tuesday.
After MPs passed the PM's Bill before Christmas, just a few more Parliamentary stages are required before it becomes law, and Britain leaves on January 31.
But nothing significant will change day-to-day until the end of 2020, when Britain exits the transition period.
The PM promised in the Tory election manifesto to enshrine in law his promise not to extend the transition and delay Brexit again.
He has until June to tell EU chiefs whether he wants more time to seal a deal, or we could leave without a deal in place at all.
Critics fear the 11-month timetable isn't long enough to secure an agreement with Brussels.
Labour has put down an amendment to extend the transition unless an agreement on the future trade partnership is done by June 15, 2020, or the Commons votes not to extend it.
But with Boris' stonking win in last month's election, it's now highly unlikely that such a change will pass through the Commons.

His 80-seat majority should be enough to see off any threats.
At the end of last year the Bill passed its second reading by 358 votes to 234 - a majority of 124.
All Tory MPs have pledged to support the PM's Brexit deal as part of their election promises to voters.
Labour and the DUP have also put forward other amendments on Northern Ireland goods, and refugees.
Mr Corbyn has said he will step down as Labour boss after the damning defeat, but the leadership race is not likely to end until March.
