Ms Thornberry has repeatedly made the case for having another Brexit referendum and campaigning to Remain in the bloc.

In yet another sign of the party's completely muddled Brexit position, she said earlier: "I would hope the public would decide to leave.
"But in the end it's going to be up to them whether we leave or whether we remain."

She later corrected her mistake adding: "Sorry, to remain.

"Sorry it was a slip of the tongue on my part.

"It illustrates that it's quarter to seven in the morning. I'm sorry."

It comes as:

Meanwhile in the excruciating interview, the refused to say whether Labour will use nuclear weapons if it got into power.

She said: "Nobody knows how they will use it whether they would use it because it has such extraordinary force and millions of people can be killed.

"If we are in circumstances where we are under threat it's impossible for any human to say whether they would be able to kill millions."

Ms Thornberry said Margaret Thatcher and other politicians refused to say whether they would hit the nuclear button if they had to.

The Labour boss Jeremy Corbyn has said in the past he would never use it.

When asked what Britain and Jeremy Corbyn would do if a country threatened to bomb London, she replied: "Who knows?"

But she let out an eye-roll at Piers Morgan who pressed her on what she would do.

The Shadow Foreign Secretary even hinted that a Corbyn-led government would make collective decisions about whether to use nukes in a time of crisis.

She told Good Morning Britain: "I don’t necessarily believe that will be a decision made by one individual, I suspect that the way that Jeremy makes decisions is that he takes advice and we work collectively."

In another shocking interview, Mrs Thornberry admitted the Labour boss had opposed wars defending the Falklands, preventing ethnic cleansing in Kosovo and even after 9/11 in Afghanistan.

Asked on BBC Radio 4’s Today if there is a single foreign military intervention Mr Corbyn has supported, the Labour frontbencher said: “No, not on the top of my head.”

She was tongue-tied as presenter Nick Robinson listed the many wars Mr Corbyn had opposed.

Johnny Mercer, Defence Minister hit back at the interview this morning.
He blasted: "If Jeremy Corbyn is unable to make crucial decisions to keep our country safe, he is not fit to be Prime Minister.

"The fact that the Shadow Foreign Secretary is openly speculating that her leader could be overruled by a committee on a matter as fundamental as using our nuclear deterrent shows just how weak Jeremy Corbyn really is. Even his closest colleagues don't trust him."

It comes on the day that both parties pledged to protect veterans if they win the December 12 election.

Boris Johnson has vowed to end vexatious claims against ex-forces men in Northern Ireland by amending the Human Rights Act to stop repeated court cases coming back with no new evidence.

Speaking ahead of a visit to the Black Country, Mr Johnson said: “If I’m elected on December 12, I want the message from my government to our Armed Forces to be louder and clearer than ever: we salute you and we will always support you.”

The Tories have also promised a third off rail fares with a new veterans railcard, and extra childcare for forces kids aged 4 - 11.

Meanwhile Labour has insisted they will provide more support for forces families and better wages for soldiers.
