Boost for Boris Johnson as Liam Payne says politicians need time to ‘have a go at it’

ONE DIRECTION star Liam Payne has given Boris Johnson a boost by saying politicians need to “get time” to make a change.

The PM found an unlikely fan in pop heart-throb Liam, 26, who compared changing political leaders to sacking football managers.

He told : “I mean, in regards to Boris or Jeremy [Corbyn] , I don’t think we give people enough time - same with West Brom Football club.

“They always change their manager every week it seems and we never get time to gel with anybody.

“We need to give someone a chance at least have a proper go of it or it will never be fixed.”

Liam also paid tribute to Mr Johnson’s hero Winston Churchill and said more people should follow the war-time PM’s lead.

The 1D star also suggested that the current ill-feeling in British politics was not the fault of one person, but all parties.

Liam said: “Take Winston Churchill, people hated him at first, thought he was a drunk, that he had no clue [wondered] what’s he doing going to war.

“Maybe we should all just be more like Winston Churchill.”

TOP TRUMP

The popstar’s plea came after Donald Trump hailed Mr Johnson as the "right man" for Britain.

Mr Trump was asked who he backed to win the election Boris or Nigel Farage, as he stepped off Air Force One in Washington yesterday.

The US President said: “I like them both.

Look, I think Boris is the right man for the time. He’s really for the times, he’s a great gentleman.

"Look, I think Boris is the right man for the time. He’s really for the times, he’s a great gentleman, he’s a wonderful guy, he’s tough, he’s smart and I think he’s going to do something."

Mr Trump had previously told the PM to form an election pact with Mr Farage’s Brexit Party, saying the pair could be an “unstoppable force”.

The President also warned against Britain doing a Brexit deal that prevented the country doing a free trade deal with the US.

He added: "I think Boris will get it right.

"They’re both friends of mine, what I would like to see is for Nigel and Boris to come together.

"I think that’s a possibility.”
