Election: First polls have Boris Johnson steaming ahead of Jeremy Corbyn – and voters think he will win
BORIS Johnson is steaming ahead of Jeremy Corbyn in the first polls of the election campaign - as the PM has vowed to get Brexit done by January.
As both party leaders kicked off their campaigns today Boris was on track to win the December poll.
Polls for The Times by YouGov had the Tories on 36 per cent, with Labour trailing behind on 21 per cent.
The Lib Dems are on 18 per cent, but the Brexit Party is still posing a threat on 13 per cent.
On the first day of the election campaign:
- Boris stuck to his familiar battlegrounds with visits to schools and hospitals
- Jeremy Corbyn launched his campaign with a speech in Battersea where he claimed he could get Brexit sorted in just six months
- But the leftie boss was awkwardly snapped giving Emily Thornberry a kiss on the hand

Separate polling from Survation showed the Tories on 34 per cent, with Labour behind on 26 per cent.
Boris Johnson was picked as the best PM with 42 per cent of the vote, and Mr Corbyn failed to get even half of that, on just 19 per cent.
The PM was labelled the best campaigner too, with 44 per cent of the vote, and 49 per cent thought that he would win the election on December 12.
TORIES WINNING ON NHS
And it put Boris ahead of Corbyn on the NHS, usually Labour's strongest ground.
The research for the Mail showed that 36 per cent of the public thinks the PM had the best health policies, compared to 34 per cent who said Mr Corbyn.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock was delighted.
He tweeted: "We Conservatives are the party of the NHS - and the public knows it."
It came as the PM promised to get Brexit done and us out of the EU by January.
On a visit to a hospital today he said: "After 3 and a half years, it was perfectly obvious to me this Parliament is just not going to vote Brexit through, there are too many people opposed to Brexit who want to frustrate it.
"The only thing we can really do now is go to the people, go to the country, lets get this thing done.
"We have an oven ready deal, let's put it in the microwave, as soon as we get back after the election on 12 December.

"We can be out by the absolute latest by January next year," he said.
"It was the mandate of the British people.
"Parliament has simply stood in their way."
