Boris Johnson vows to save Sumatran Tiger, saying there are less of them left than we have peers in the Lords
BORIS JOHNSON will vow to save the Sumatran Tiger – saying it defies belief there are more peers in the Lords than the endangered animal.
The PM will play up his green credentials by promising to put £220 million behind protecting some of the world’s under threat species.
The cash will also be used to save the black rhino, African elephant and snow leopard.
Speaking in New York, the PM will say: “The global population of animals is plummeting faster than at any time in human history.
“There are more peers in the House of Lords than there are Sumatran tigers left in the world. And we risk there being no tigers left at all when the next Year of the Tiger comes round in 2022.”
Greenpeace said the “collection of pet projects” fell short of the radical action required.
Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds – who advises campaign group Oceana - is expected to at his side when he address the WWF in New York.
