'HIERARCHY OF RACISM'

Sadiq Khan says he’s ‘heartbroken’ over racism crisis tearing the Labour Party apart

SADIQ Khan yesterday furiously accused Labour chiefs of believing in a “hierarchy of racism” as he blasted their failure to tackle anti-Semitism.

London’s first Muslim Mayor said he is “heartbroken” at the racism crisis tearing his party apart.

And he demanded that party chiefs finally stand up and root out the vile anti Jew hate infecting the party.

Speaking at a rally at a rally on the fringe of Labour’s conference in Brighton, Mr Khan said: “For me, racism is racism - there are no shades.

Anti-Semitism is racism. And my concern about our party is there appears to be a hierarchy when it comes to racism.

“And those of us who joined the Labour Party because of its views on social injustice, its views on addressing inequalities, its views on the sort of society we want to see - in local government if you are a council, in regional government if you are a mayor, or in national if you are in government - are a million miles away from the experience of Jewish people involved in the Labour Party.

'IT BREAKS MY HEART'

“And it breaks my heart that in our country in 2019 that there are schools children go to and places people worship at that because they happen to be Jewish schools or synagogue they require the police to provide security at those places of worship and places of education.

“And if we the Labour Party can’t give people hope and solidarity for the Jewish community then what purpose do we serve?”

His devastating words came a string of Labour MPs also demanded Jeremy Corbyn finally gets a grip on the crisis.

Labour former minister Dame Margaret Hodge lashed her leader for failing “to listen”.

She added: “They think they know best about how to tackle anti-Semitism… they are blinded by their own lack of self-awareness."

Labour has been ripped by the racism crisis, which has gripped the party since Mr Corbyn became leader.

In a devastating blow for the party, Labour is being formally investigated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission over claims it is institutionally anti-Semitic.

But Mr Corbyn has fiercely denied the charge, and insisted he has kicked racists out the party.
