AT least seven children are dead and dozens are trapped after a classroom collapsed in Kenya as pupils sat down for their morning class.
Emergency crews are frantically trying to free pupils trapped in the rubble after an iron wall fell on their school roof.
The first floor of the building collapsed at 7.30am, trapping the children below as they were about to begin their classes.
Kenya's government spokesman Cyrus Oguna said: "There have been 57 students that have been taken to hospital for treatment, and we can also confirm that there have been seven fatalities."
Local resident Michael Otieno said: "The children here were all running away and crying."
Red Cross workers were seen sifting through the wreckage at Precious Talent school, and carrying white bodybags into an ambulance.
Parents, who complained the emergency response was too slow, anxiously awaited at the scene news as rescuers combed through the rubble to free them.

The cause was not immediately known, but construction can be poorly regulated in some fast-growing Kenyan communities.
Authorities have previously warned 30-40,000 buildings erected without approval in Nairobi are at risk of collapse.
Three years ago a six-storey residential block collapsed in Nairobi, killing 51 people following heavy rains.

More than 800 students are enrolled at the school, officials said.
