Donald Trump proposes tracking people with mental health problems via SMARTPHONES

Phoney war... the fight against mass murders may require tracking them via their phones

DONALD Trump’s government is planning to battle mass shootings by tracking mentally ill people's phones and smartwatches.

The idea was dreamed up by a team tasked by the President’s daughter Invanka to stop shooters butchering American people.

Bob Wright, a former NBC chairman and longtime Trump aide, is the leading force behind the idea.

He has plans to form Health Advanced Research Projects Agency (HARPA), to tackle such problems.

Following the El Paso massacre, Ivanka Trump asked experts to come up with a number of proposals to stop the bloodbath, reports.

Mr Wright’s team have produced a three-page document called “Stopping Aberrant Fatal Events by Helping Overcome Mental Extremes”.

The Trump administration links mass shootings to mental health rather than lax gun laws.

The document also urges the government to explore whether technology could detect when people with mental health difficulties are about to become violent.

But the ideas have been slammed as infringing civil liberties.

Marisa Randazzo, former chief research psychologist for the US Secret Service, told the Post the initial premise was itself flawed.

She said: “Everything we know from research tells us it’s a weak link at best.”

The latest shooting spree in El Paso massacre on August 3 where 22 were killed was carried out by a man with racist motivations.

Hours later an extreme left shooter shot dead 20 people in Dayton, Ohio

But conservatives in the US who are keen to keep easy access to weapons claim mental health problems was to blame.

Following the El Paso and Ohio mass shootings, Trump said: “I don’t want people to forget that this is a mental health problem.

“I don’t want them to forget that, because it is. It’s a mental health problem.

“It’s the people that pull the trigger, it’s not the gun that pulls the trigger.”
