The highly respected Met Police royalty officer was later released on bail while further inquiries are carried out into the “serious” allegations made by the complainant. The officer, held on August 22, has been temporarily removed from his job protecting a senior member of the Royal Family.

He has been placed on restricted office duties pending the outcome of the probe. It is understood that the police bodyguard, who has been protecting the senior royal for a number of years, vehemently denies the rape and stalking claims made against him.

A royal source said: “The member of the Royal Family was shocked to hear about this protection officer’s arrest.

“The officer is a model of professionalism and has shown the utmost integrity in his duties.”
