THREE months of rain is set to make this autumn a warm and wet one for most of the UK, the Met Office has warned.

While Brits are bracing themselves for a wet quarter, above-average temperatures are set to make up for the shorter days as we approach the winter months.

Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna told The Sun Online: "For the next three months, we can expect above average temperatures.

"But those will be accompanied with wet weather, and it's set to be wetter than normal going into October."

The forecaster added: "There's a 60 per cent chance of this autumn being in the warmest category.

"However we're set to a lot of rain in September mixed in with some wind."

'HEFTY SHOWERS'

As for tomorrow, Brits are going to experience a fresher feel weather-wise, in contrast to temperatures reaching highs of 26C yesterday in the south.

But the Met Office has said high pressure may move in next week, providing settled, if cooler, weather.

Mr Petagna said: "Tomorrow's temperatures will creep up to 26C at best, with some hefty showers to be expected in the north.

"It's also going to feel quite thundery and there will be a cool breeze in the north.

"The southern part of the country will most likely miss the wet weather."

BELOW AVERAGE TEMPS

It will be a cool and breezy day with a mix of sunshine and showers.

The showers will be heaviest in the north, which could also be hit by hail and thunder.

Forecasters also warn that it will be cooler than it has been recently, and we are set to see "thundery showers" hitting parts of the UK.

The weather forecaster warned the huge deluge could trigger flooding - bringing the record-breaking August Bank Holiday heatwave to a miserable end.
