Eco firm Sir Elton John paid to ‘offset’ Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s private jets makes misleading claims
THE eco firm paid by Sir Elton John to offset Prince Harry and Meghan’s private jet flights has misleading claims on its website, The Sun can reveal.
Carbon Footprint says it is working with 17 government departments to cancel out their emissions with tree planting and green schemes.
But a Cabinet Office spokeswoman said: “We do not recognise the claim.”
And a highly-placed Government source said: “There is no record whatsoever of it having deals with central government at all. It’s safe to assume this will be taken up with the company.”
Sir Elton. 72, told this week how he paid for the royals to fly to his mansion in Nice, southern France, and cancelled out environmental damage by buying “carbon credits.” He may have been won over by website boasts including: “Carbon Footprint Ltd helps Government carbon offset to Gold Standards.

“The 17 Government departments using Carbon Footprint Ltd’s carbon offsetting services include the Ministry of Defence, Cabinet Office and the Department for Energy and Climate Change.”
The firm, based in Basingstoke, Hants, gives no details of how much it has spent on green projects.
Nor does it say how it plans to spend the £1.51million which has piled up in shareholder funds. Last night managing director John Buckley, 51, and co-founder Dr Wendy Buckley, 48, declined to comment on their website’s claims.
But she insisted: “All of our carbon offsetting is independently audited.”
