Man ‘armed with knife and hammer while making threats to kill’ is arrested outside the Home Office days after worker was stabbed
A MAN reportedly armed with a knife and hammer has been arrested outside the Home Office today.
The suspect, in his 30s, was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and “making threats to kill”.
The incident is not being treated as terror-related.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 12.47pm to St Thomas Street, outside a Home Office building, following reports of a man armed with a knife and a hammer.
“Passing officers were flagged down and arrested a man, aged in his 30s.”
The man was taken into custody.
It comes just days after a 29-year-old man was charged with grievous bodily harm over a knife attack outside the Home Office.
Dominic Hornberger, from Birmingham, was charged with possession of a knife in a public place following the stabbing of a civil service worker on Thursday.
He is due to appear in Southwark Crown Court on September 13 after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ court on Saturday.
The victim, a housing ministry expert in his sixties, did not receive life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses said Hornberger, holding a pet carrier, had approached people and asked if they worked at the Home Office.
