Brixton murder – Teenager, 18, stabbed to death in South London as boy, 17, arrested for murder
AN 18-YEAR-OLD boy has been stabbed to death in broad daylight in Brixton today - in the latest violent attack in Lawless London.
He is the 16th teen to have been murdered on the streets of the capital this year, 15 of whom were fatally stabbed.
Cops were called to Corrance Road shortly before 2pm today to reports of a stabbing. Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.
The teen was found with stab injuries but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 2.41pm.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.
Crime scenes have been put in place. Next of kin have been informed.
A post mortem will be carried out in due course.
The latest attack comes just three days after another teen was knifed to death in the capital.
Alex Smith, 16, was stabbed to death on a housing estate in Camden, close to Regent's Park, with a "foot-long machete".
Terrified witnesses told how the boy's attackers ran from the scene laughing.
They said the teen could be heard banging on a family's front door begging for help before he stabbed.
In another shocking incident today, armed cops swooped on a ponytailed suspect after a man was slashed in the face at the Home Office.
The handcuffed suspect was led into a van as the victim, believed to be a Home Office security guard, was seen covered in blood after the lunchtime attack.
Police said terror is a current a line of enquiry, with a spokesman adding: "We are keeping an open mind on the motive".
There have now been 87 violent deaths in London this year.
Figures revealed five young people are attacked with a knife every day in London and Sadiq Khan warned it could take a "decade" to turn back the tide of violent crime.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said this week he was determined to tackle rising levels of knife crime amid the impression of a growing "culture of insolence" among "thugs" who believed they could act with impunity.
Mr Johnson pledged to extended police stop and search powers and also said the government would be investing £2.5 billion in creating 10,000 new prison places.
Any witnesses to the Brixton stabbing or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 3821/15aug or Tweet MetCC.
