TIME TO REPENT

Instagram couple who sparked outrage by splashing bums with holy water are forced to pray at same temple for ‘purification ritual’

AN Instagram couple who sparked outrage by splashing their bums with holy water at a temple in Bali have been forced to pray and perform a “purification ritual”.

Sabina Dolezalova was filmed lifting up her skirt and bending over in front of a sacred water spout while boyfriend Zdenek Slouka splashed her at the Beji Temple in the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary.

Slouka is seen using his hand to spray water over her buttocks before playfully slapping her seemingly bare behind twice.

The clueless couple, who are Instagram ‘stars‘ in their native Czech Republic, then both start giggling for the camera.

The two were blasted for their antics, with Bali governor Wayan Koster warning that tourists behaving in a similar manner in future would be kicked off the Indonesian island.

“If any tourists act like that in the future, we’re just going to send them home,” he said.

On Thursday, the couple sort to make amends by returning to the temple to take part in a purification ritual.

The two, dressed in traditional clothing, looked sombre as they pressed their hands to their heads and sipped holy water in a ceremony led by a Hindu priest.

Speaking afterwards, Slouka said: “I’m really glad that we had the opportunity to purify this place and now I would like to say thank you to all the Balinese people because they were very kind to us.”

Dolezalova added: “We are sorry… and we hope that no one will do something similar again.”

Bali senator Arya Wedakarna told AFP: “They made a mistake sullying our island.

“Anyone who violates our traditions must take part in a purification ritual.”

‘BALI SHOULD BE MORE SELECTIVE’

The couple have some 85,000 followers on Instagram, and after sharing the video received floods of criticism from Indonesians offended by their actions.

Prominent local designer Niluh Djelantik called for Bali to become more “selective” over which tourists it allows to visit the destination.

The pair later uploaded a video apologising for their actions to social media.

In the clip, the boyfriend said: “Hey, we are so sorry about the video from yesterday.

“We dishonoured the holy temple and holy water and we didn’t know it, so we are so sorry about what happened.”

His girlfriend then added: “Because we had no idea that was some holy water or that there is a holy temple.

“We really didn’t want to do anything bad, we are so truly sorry. We hope you are going to forgive us and now we are just finding what we can do to fix it.”

Fitness instructor Dolezalova is said to have made a financial donation to the village after the incident to express the couple’s regret.

But not everybody was impressed with their apologies.

“Come on, don’t be stupid saying that you didn’t have (any) idea about it,” one wrote on their Instagram page.

“Look at you (are now) pretending that you are sorry but when you did it you laughed at our holy temple. Use your brain.”
