Britain’s homes and offices face spider invasion as they flee summer washout
MILLIONS of spiders are eight-legging it into homes and offices across Britain weeks early because they think summer is a washout.
The invasion normally happens in September or October but experts say the heavy rain is making it happen early.
Our homes are a big attraction for spiders as central heating provides the perfect conditions for females to lay their eggs before hibernating.
Pest controller Clive Boase also warned of a rise in false widows — the UK's only native poisonous spider, which have shiny black bodies.
He said: “They’re more common than most people think.
"There are half-a-dozen different species of the false widow and they can survive both indoors and outdoors.

"They prefer suburban areas and are most commonly found around domestic and commercial premises.
"They love conservatories and toilet blocks, window frames, porches, lofts and garages and they like to live beneath kitchen appliances and cupboards.
“They certainly can give a painful bite but only as a last resort.”
