Cathedral installs crazy golf course in plan to tee-up a younger congregation – but vicars slam ’embarrassing shambles’
A CATHEDRAL hopes to tee-up a younger congregation after installing a crazy golf course.
A trust which maintains local bridges designed and paid for the nave’s nine-holer, with each based on a different crossing.
Rochester Cathedral in Kent said the stunt for August was giving people the chance to “learn while they take part in a fun activity, in what for many might be a previously unvisited building.”
But critics hit out at the idea.
Father David Palmer tweeted: “I was ‘ordained’ in this Cathedral. What an embarrassing shambles.”
Referring to John Fisher — a Catholic bishop there who Henry VIII had executed — Fr Timothy Finnigan wrote: “It’s what St John Fisher would have wanted. (Not)”
Angela Morabito added: “Rochester Cathedral was founded in AD 604.
“It survived the Norman Conquest, two fires in the 12th century, and several rounds of pillaging. And now . . . ”
A spokesman said: “Cathedrals up and down the country are hosting all sorts of activities. Worship is unaffected.”
