Boris Johnson hires Brexit mastermind Dominic Cummings who was played by Benedict Cumberbatch to be his guru in No10

BORIS Johnson today hired Brexit mastermind Dominic Cummings to be his guru in No10.

The Tory campaigner is known for his aggressive campaigning style and was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in a Channel 4 drama.

He will work as a senior adviser to the new Prime Minister and is set to be a key figure in delivering Brexit.

Mr Cummings, a former aide to Michael Gove, effectively ran the Vote Leave campaign in the 2016 referendum.

He used data-driven campaigning to win over undecided voters by pushing a small number of key messages – and came up with the slogan “take back control”.

The Brexit guru then left public life but has been fiercely critical of how Theresa May tried to deliver Brexit.

He has also hit out at hardline Eurosceptic MPs, claiming they were harming their own cause.

Earlier this year, he was found to be in contempt of Parliament because he refused to give evidence to a committee hearing about “fake news”.

Mr Cummings was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in Brexit: The Uncivil War, a 90-minute drama which aired on Channel 4 earlier this year.

He will be one of a number of Vote Leave staff to have senior roles under Boris.

The new head of negotiations will be former diplomat David Frost, another Brexit true believer.

Remainers reacted with horror – Labour’s Wes Streeting said: “Boris Johnson isn’t going to be Prime Minister. He’s going to be a hostage.”

Sarah Wollaston, who quit the Tories earlier this year, claimed it was “an appalling error of judgement”.

The Sun Says

HOW better to “take back control” of Government than hiring as chief adviser the man who thought up that famous slogan?

Vote Leave genius Dominic Cummings will bring explosive and ruthless drive to Downing Street. He has no tolerance for dithering, backsliding or obstructive civil servants.

He will drive a tank through them — and not just on Brexit.

Remainers loathe him almost more than Boris. So what?

No man is better able to get things done.
