MANN FOR THE JOB

Theresa May takes final swipe at Jeremy Corbyn by appointing his arch critic as anti-Semitism tsar

THERESA May took a final swipe at Jeremy Corbyn by appointing his arch critic Labour MP John Mann as her new anti-Semitism Tsar.

Mr Mann has spent the past three years hammering the Labour leader for his woeful failure to kick racists out.

And now he will give advice to the Government on the best ways to tackle anti-Semites.

Mrs May said the new post will help Britain “fight the bitter scourge wherever it rears its head.”

She said: “John Mann is, without exception, a key voice on this matter.

“He has frequently campaigned in the House of Commons on this issue and has tirelessly used his role as a politician to speak out on behalf of victims of anti-Jewish racism.

“I am confident he will bring the level of cross-party independent advice needed to advise Government and to ensure we see progress on this very important issue.”

'FIGHT THE BITTER SCOURGE'

Mr Mann said: “If we stay silent on the issue of anti-Semitism, we unwittingly allow cowardice and bigotry to speak its own repulsive language.

“I will continue to call out those throwing stones of hatred at Jewish people, and will endeavour to give a clarion call to Government on prejudice and discrimination on this issue.”

Mr Mann’s shock appointment is yet another humiliation for Mr Corbyn, whose party has been ripped apart by the racism scandal.

It comes as he faces fresh fury from his backbenchers for trying to ram through disciplinary reforms slammed by Jews and his seething MPs.
