She had been bludgeoned to death - with a post-mortem confirming blunt force trauma to the head and face.

Cops today confirmed a 54-year-old man arrested in connection with her death and said Diane knew her attacker.

Police officers were scrambled to the private block of apartments at 11.10pm on Thursday following concerns for her welfare.

They discovered Diane unresponsive and suffering from head injuries. She was declared dead at the scene.

'WELL-LIKED AND POPULAR'

Stunned neighbours have since paid tribute to the "very well liked and was popular" businesswoman.

One said: "She was absolutely lovely- a strong presence. She made us a community. The soul of the building."

While another told the Evening Standard: "We have been friends for a long, long time. She was a big part of our family, and she was a very loving woman."

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell, who is leading the murder investigation for the Metropolitan Police, said: "This is a tragic incident and we are supporting Diane's family at this difficult time.

"I would like to reassure the community that this is thought to be an isolated incident and we believe Diane knew her attacker.

"My officers are working around the clock to apprehend the person responsible, however we also need the public's help.

"Did you see or hear anything suspicious on the evening of Thursday, July 18 in the Oakwood Avenue area? If so, we need to hear from you. Please contact the incident room as soon as possible or call Crimestoppers anonymously."
