BLOOD ON THE STREETS

Murder cops arrest suspect after man, 21, stabbed to death near McDonald’s in Cardiff city centre

MURDER cops arrested a suspect today after a 21-year-old man was knifed to death near a McDonald's in Cardiff city centre.

Asim Khan, 21, was stabbed in the early hours of the morning on the city's main clubbing street in the early hours of Sunday.

Emergency services desperately performed CPR on the man, from Grangetown, in Cardiff, and he was rushed to hospital.

But he was later pronounced dead at the University Hospital of Wales.

Horrified witnesses saw the attacker run off behind Cardiff Central train station.

Police say the "disturbance" started outside McDonalds on St Mary's Street — before the men moved further down the street.

Vicky Thomas, 36, from Riverside, Cardiff, said her friends saw the attack.

She said: "They saw it. They saw the man fall to the floor. They said it happened so quickly. There was blood on the street."

South Wales police are appealing for any information.

Detective Superintendent Richard Jones, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “A young man has tragically lost his life early this morning and we are doing all we can to identify the person responsible.

“CCTV shows a disturbance which starts in the street near McDonalds and moves towards the Oxfam store where the victim has collapsed having sustained a wound as a result of being stabbed.

“Significant police enquiries are continuing in the area and we thank the local community, including businesses and visitors, for its understanding while a number of cordons remain in place.”

Asim's family are being supported by specialist officers. A police cordon is still in place.
