It came as the Tory rivals faced off for the last time in a 90-minute debate hosted by The Sun and talkRADIO.

The two men made headlines - including UK front pages - with their blast at President Trump's race row tweets.

The Times said "Tory rivals take aim at Trump" while i went with "Tory rivals condemn 'offensive' Trump jibe".

French paper Le Figaro also took up the story with a headline translated as "Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt condemn Trump's comments".

Other outlets focused on the candidates' Brexit policies.

They both said that getting a time limit on the backstop wouldn't be enough to fix the existing EU deal and demanded it be removed altogether.

ITV presenter Robert Peston said the promises mean a No Deal Brexit is now "probable" because Brussels is unlikely to agree to the request.

Global news agency Reuters said they had set a "high bar for Brexit talks" and the comments were also picked up by the Irish Times.

The Wall Street Journal reported: "British leadership rivals take Brexit position that sets up clash with EU".
