Labour group slammed for backhanded congratulatory message about ‘private school’ cricketers after World Cup win
A FRINGE Labour group endorsed by former leader Ed Miliband has sparked fury by issuing backhanded congratulations to England's 'private school' cricket heroes.
The Labour Against Private Schools campaign - which calls for the abolition of Eton - celebrated England's nailbiting World Cup win by whining about the number of privately educated players in the team.
It said in a statement: "Congratulations to the #EnglandCricketTeam on their World Cup win!
"But let's not forget that 43% of men playing international cricket for England went to private school.
"Our national sports teams should draw on the talents of all in our society - not just a privileged few."
One user fumed: "If that is your first thought when England win a global tournament, then I feel sorry for you. Must be a sad life."
Where England's heroes went to school
A MASSIVE 43 per cent of England's World Cup heroes went to private school - even though seven per cent of the population went to one.
A further three per cent went to grammer school, while 43 per cent went to a comprehensive.
Another added: "What a PATHETIC statement to make-if they are good enough and dedicated they will get picked."
The bitter tweet came as England won their first-ever men's Cricket World Cup after a stunning end to the final against New Zealand.
A Super Over was required for Eoin Morgan and co to beat the Black Caps and end the 44-year wait.
