THIS is the distressing moment a tourist plane nosedived into a Swedish river this afternoon, killing all nine people on board.
Horrified eyewitnesses told how they heard a loud "bang" before the plane plunged into a river outside Umea in north-east Sweden during a skydiving trip.
A witness said he heard a loud "bang" as the plane plummeted.
Axel Pettersson, 16, was sitting on his sofa at home near Umea Airport when heard a sound from the skies becoming higher and higher-pitched.
He told he is used to hearing planes taking off and landing, but said he had never heard this particular sound before.
When he went outside he saw the plane circling and it then took a nosedive seconds after he started filming.
He told his parents who raised the alarm.
One told Expressen how the plane spun into a sickening nosedive shortly after 2pm local time.
It plunged into the river near the island of Storsandskar after sending a distress signal at 2.12pm.
At a press conference later in the afternoon, air crash investigation authorities confirmed all of the dead were Swedish, including one person who had dual citizenship.
They rejected theories that a wing fell off the plane before it landed.
Authorities said the passengers were skydivers and some witnesses told Swedish media they saw parachutists trying to jump off the plane just before the crash.
Fire service spokesman Conny Ovarfordt said: "We are already on the scene with a rescue team which is assisting the ambulance and we have opened a location, together with aid organisations, to give psychological and social care.
"It's a parachute plane, and something seems to have happened just after take-off."
