Masked killer, 17, who stabbed teen to death because he wasn’t allowed into Halloween party jailed for life
A MASKED killer who stabbed a teenager to death after he wasn't allowed into a Halloween party has been jailed for life.
Michael Thompson, 17, from Huddersfield, was jailed for life for the murder of Jamie Brown, 17, after stabbing him in the stomach and damaging major blood vessels.
Thompson had been trying to break into the party in Ovenden with a group of boys who were carrying knives and hammers when he got into an argument with Brown and his friends.
West Yorkshire Police said the case "highlights the devastation of using knives".
A police spokesman said Thompson stabbed Jamie, from Halifax, in the lower abdomen during the disturbance. He died a short time later.
JAILED FOR LIFE
Thompson was found guilty of murder following a four-week trial that ended last month.
He was also found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon, violent disorder and his involvement in the stabbing of the second male, police confirmed.
Thompson was jailed for life with a minimum term of 17 years.
Moments after the bloody attack on October 27 last year, a second 17-year-old boy was stabbed as the streets, shops and takeaways erupted into violence.
Officers said a 16-year-old boy was charged with wounding with intent, in relation to the injuries inflicted to the second victim, and violent disorder.
He pleaded guilty and was jailed for three years.
A 17-year-old who pleaded guilty to violent disorder was jailed for 12 months.
A 15-year-old and 17-year-old who were found guilty of violent disorder were given 12-month referral orders.
This case highlights the devastation of using knives. Carrying a knife is never the answer
Detective Inspector Andy Cass
Detective Inspector Andy Cass said: "The tragic death of Jamie has had a lasting effect, not just on his family and friends but also on the wider community.
"He should have celebrated his 18th birthday last month but, instead, his family are trying to come to terms with his death.
"I would like to praise their bravery and composure throughout the criminal proceedings and I hope today's sentencing can bring them some degree of comfort."
Mr Cass continued: "Jamie's killer went out that night with the intention of inflicting injury and worse, and did not hesitate to pull out a knife.
"He then tried to dispose of it by throwing it down a drain."

He added: "This case highlights the devastation of using knives. Carrying a knife is never the answer.
"The decision of those convicted to carry a knife resulted in two young men being stabbed and one of those young men losing his life.
"The sentence imposed today on Jamie's killer and the others involved shows how seriously the courts and police continue take offences of this nature."
